Wagoner will drive a Volt to DC

GM CEO Rick Wagoner has announced that instead of flying or taking the train or bus, he’ll be driving to Washington to meet with them tomorrow.  He’ll be driving in our favorite car, the Volt.  This is a message to DC that GM is thinking forward and can help this country a great deal in terms of getting off of foreign oil.

The Volt isn’t finalized yet, but the current powertrain is riding in the Chevy Cruz model (very similar to what the Volt will be) so that’s what he’ll arrive in.  He expects to be there at 9:30 tomorrow morning and will stop to talk to people.  One of the autoshow Volts will be there as well.

We need vehicles like this if we’re going to survive China and India industrializing.  There’s only so much oil/coal/natural gas on the planet, and we’re running out of the easy to get stuff.  If we don’t start moving off of those as our primary source of energy and transportation now we’ll be hurting really bad in the coming decades.  The cost of energy will skyrocket.

I hope that Bob Nardelli will drive one of the ENVI vehicles, Chrysler is apparently further along on those than GM is on the Volt.
