Volt gets a competitor from BMW
Called the Mini E. It looks just like the BMW mini cooper, and other car companies should take note. A big chunk of the market won’t buy your ugly electric cars, so using the mini as the platform for the new electric vehicle is a smart choice (though a lot of people don’t like the look of the mini already so we’ll see how well sales go).
Initially it’ll only be offered to three states: California, New York, New Jersey. They’ll only make 500 available to begin with and more will flow as years go by. (Remember, if there are any issues they want to catch the issues while a limited number are on the road).
Like the Volt the Mini E is powered by an electric motor, unlike the Volt the Mini E is all electric. There is no range extending gas engine in there. It’ll have a range of 150 miles, after you have to spend a few hours to charge it.
The motor is a 204 hp electric motor, it’ll go 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. The weight is up to 3,230 pounds from the Mini Cooper’s 2,568 pounds. It uses a special power adapter intalled in the owners home and can recharge in just two hours and thirty minutes. If it were to go on sale to the general public it would qualify for the same tax credits that the Volt does.
